Spelling Tutoring Program

Our spelling tutoring program coincides with the decoding practices following the Orton Gillingham and Wilson Reading System® techniques. As students are introduced to a decoding concept, they also practice spelling words or syllables that follow that concept. Again, progressing at the pace of each student allows for mastery before moving on to a new concept.  Students are expected to spell at the single word level and work towards transferring these skills as they are constructing all written work.  Continuing with the multi-sensory approach, games and manipulatives are again incorporated to ensure an understanding of a specific rule or concept.  As with reading, this is a cumulative approach so retention becomes less of an issue.
