About Us
Hello! My name is Jill Abrams and I’m a multi-sensory tutor that specializes in teaching children with reading, comprehension, writing and math difficulties (including dyslexia). When conventional methods don’t work – I can help! My tutoring is extremely beneficial for those who have difficulties learning to read, spell, write or learn math. I actually am dyslexic myself, which is one of the biggest reasons I started The Reading Tutor and got into tutoring. Having dyslexia has helped me understand what my students are experiencing and what they need to excel in their studies.
The techniques I use to support this learning style are quite exciting! My training and tutoring includes Orton-Gillingham style techniques, which have been used for over 75 years to help children with learning differences. I have a variety of games and manipulatives that are geared towards the lessons each student is working on. They also reinforce taught concepts in a fun and engaging way.
The goal for every student is to become a sound, independent student. In turn, the students leave each session with a great sense of self-esteem that carries over into the classroom and daily life. Before accepting a student, I give a free assessment to confirm they are the right candidates for our many programs. We accept only students that fit the profile so that each student receives all of the benefits we have to offer.
All of our many diverse students have always loved attending their sessions. Not only because this is the most beneficial way for them to learn, but also because they feel so comfortable and actually enjoy learning. We make sure that each session is filled with a variety of learning activities geared to each student, so much in fact, they have no concept how hard they are truly working. We encourage our students and let them know how unbelievably brilliant they really are. Dyslexia or processing issues have nothing to do with intelligence, they only provide a different and exciting path to learning.
