Multiplication Facts

Does your child have difficulty learning their multiplication tables? Multiplication and division should be introduced in its most basic form at the earliest opportunity so that children can begin to familiarize themselves with these key operations. Multiplication forms the building blocks for other higher-level mathematical concepts. Being strong at multiplication makes every math class after much easier. When a child masters his/her math facts, these concepts will be significantly easier and the student will be better equipped to solve them faster.

At Jill Abrams Tutoring we not only teach our students to memorize their multiplications facts, we teach them the concept of what multiplication is and many skills that go along with it. If your child is struggling to memorize so many facts, we can help. We teach various skills and “tricks” for the student to master all multiplication facts, NOT just by memorizing. Our goal is for each student to feel confident in knowing their times tables so they can begin to apply this knowledge to calculating a variety of sums.

Division and multiplication skills can be applied to real life concepts. As children handle money, share items between friends and cut food into portions they are beginning to build up their division and multiplication skills as part of their everyday life. Being introduced to these ideas at an early age will mean that as well as gaining confidence in the subject, they will be able to utilize these skills through the rest of their lives. Once a student knows their facts and understands the concept, they are on their way to being a successful math student.
